Anesthesia Information:
Take away all access to food, midnight the night before the procedure. Water is okay.
Plan to arrive at 8:05AM, immediately after opening.
Expect to be here 10-15 minutes to admit your pet and sign necessary paperwork.
It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that we are able to reach you by phone right away the day of the procedure in case the doctor needs to discuss any findings while your pet is under anesthesia.
If we have any questions, we will call you. Otherwise we will call after the procedure is completed and your pet is recovering from anesthetic. This call is often made in the early afternoon.
Optional and Recommended Procedures for Anesthesia Patients
Laboratory Blood Work is required for pets over 10 years of age (or 8 years for giant breeds). For younger patients, pre-anesthetic lab work is optional but recommended. We can perform a basic pre-op blood test the same day prior to the procedure. In some cases the veterinarian will recommend more comprehensive blood work, which will need to be performed one day prior to the anesthetic procedure.
Optional procedures often performed while your pet is under anesthetic:
1) AVID Microchipping: This is where a small microchip for permanent identification is placed by injection under the skin.
2) Hip Radiographs: This may be performed for owners desiring to know the conformation of their dog's hips.
3) Dental Cleaning / Prophylaxis: Since dental cleaning in dogs and cats requires anesthesia, it is sometimes convenient to combine this with another non-urgent procedure, e.g. a growth removal.
